Hi, this is the first blog post on behalf of Johnny J & The Merrymakers. Well who the hell is Jonny J and why the blog you may ask? Allow me introduce to you good people, The Merrymakers are a function band from the UK. Whilst we all tolerate our day jobs, we dream of becoming rock stars. Unfortunately the reality is that most musicians never become rock stars so this is the next best thing..
But despite the day job thing, being in a band is a pretty cool pastime. Picture the scene, its a weekend, having a room full of people singing along, arms aloft, jumping around and generally having a great time, whilst you're doing your thing... Well its a good feeling. Certainly a much better feeling than getting up real early on monday morning and getting ready to go to your day job. So it goes without saying that any Merrymakers gig is always a great one, cos we all love what we do.
Our No.1 golden rule - only play songs that make people happy/feel good
The band started out in the summer of 2014 by the name of Deckchair Circus as a favour for a friend to perform some chilled out acoustic covers at a private birthday party. To begin with we were a 3 piece group consisting of guitars & bass focusing on strong vocal harmonies but soon evolved into the band we are today. All members were playing in bands long before 2014 and I am certainly no exception as I've been playing in bands and writing music for over 15 years. This is my first blog on the subject so I'm thinking I'll have plenty to write about.
So stay tuned for all the good stuff about being in a rock band and some of the not so good stuff aswell.
Whats the dream for the band? Well that's easy. The dream is to be able to make a living from being in a band. But just like the old AC/DC record, "its a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll".
